my favorite scenes from batman stories are the ones where gordon and batman are alone. they have such respect for each other, yet neither fully trusts the other. greg rucka wrote a great scene between the two at the end of no man's land where batman was about to reveal his secret identity and gordon was insulted by that gesture. he was insulted that batman would actually think that he couldn't or hadn't figured out his identity long ago. jeph loeb and tim sale had some classic moments in their long Halloween books as well.
anyway, still playing with lights and darks, not too happy with this one, but it was sure fun to do.

so i have been playing around with how i am going to do my webcomic. i decided that i needed to practice doing a drawing a day, and linking the narrative. that plus my love of commisioner gordon led to this:
semi-daily gordon.
when time has permitted this week, i have drawn a panel, based on a very loose idea. here's what i finished so far. not sure if i am going to take this to completion or spend the time working on my own idea, but it's been alot of fun. any critiques or ideas would be great.

so i've been working on a story for about a year or so and have finally gotten around to drawing it. it will be slow, probably a webcomic. one of the hurdles was figuring out how i wanted it to look like. i've been drawing for other people for so long now, that i haven't really thought about how i draw. for me. what i came up with was this page. i am sure it will evolve as it goes, but for now. this is my "style"....i won't be making the webcomic official until i have a few pages in the bag....hope you like it.

So due to Ryan's extreme patience i have finally "penciled/roughed out" his wonerful script, REM in graphic novel form. now the fun part, inking. inking is my most favorite part of drawing. it's the icing on the cake for me. here's a page i inked today. 170 or so more to go!!

so thanks to the education gods of California i will be able to keep teaching art for the next year. it was pretty dicey there for a bit as i thought of what my possible back up careers could be and visions of retail, fast food and manual labor flashed through my head. outside of teaching i still freelance quite a bit, but nothing that would keep our heads above water for very long. this fear of a. not having a job i love and b. having to do something i hate for $ left me with the resolution to start focusing more on preparing myself for jobs i want and that i could do while teaching. storyboards and comics where what i came up with. nice and stable, huh :) i am leaning more towards comics since i can work on them at night from home. so for the next year, i will be focusing on a few things art wise, finishing REM (thanks for being patient Mr. Colucci) getting some work published by a big publisher and all around flexing my creative muscles a bit more... so what does that have to do with conan and a bloody sword?
nothing.
just that he is so much fun to draw!
